Field Stories
Plunge into the wild stories of Lockleaze.
Field Stories by artists Charli Clark and Sylvia Rimat, is a public outdoor sculpture and audio experience, co-created with children, young people and older people. Field Stories consists of three benches with carved poles in the urban neighbourhood of Lockleaze, Bristol, sited adjacent to wildflower meadows that have been planted by local people as part of ‘Really Wild Lockleaze’, a programme of Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust. The work invites passers-by to sit down, enjoy the wildflowers and to listen to an audio work via their smartphone that can be accessed via engraved QR codes. The audio work draws on the historic past of Lockleaze and the origin of its name and features personal local wildlife stories from the past and envisaging the future. The carvings are made from designs co-created by local children, inspired by butterfly species local to Lockleaze. The artwork will stay in place for the foreseeable future.
Field Stories was co-created with yr 7 students at Trinity Academy, yr3 students at Stoke Park Primary, with children at the Vench and through interviewing older people of Lockleaze.
